What is the 1X double chance in football?
The 1X double chance is a way of reading a match result in which two outcomes count: a home win or a draw. Find out how it works and how to interpret this notation in football matches.
What 1X means
In the match-result market, 1 represents a home win, X represents a draw and 2 represents an away win. Therefore, 1X covers the outcomes in which the home team wins or draws.
When the 1X double chance is a winner
The 1X selection is correct if the final score ends in a home win or a draw. For example, a match between Flamengo and Bahia qualifies as 1X if Flamengo win 1–0, 3–2 or by any other scoreline. It also qualifies if it ends 0–0, 1–1 or in any other draw.
When 1X does not come in
The only result that invalidates 1X is an away win. If Bahia beat Flamengo 1–0, for example, the final result is 2, not 1X.
The difference between 1X, X2 and 12
The three possible double-chance combinations are 1X, X2 and 12. 1X covers a home win or a draw. X2 covers a draw or an away win. 12 covers a win for either team but excludes a draw.
What counts towards the double-chance result
In football statistics and market records, the double chance normally covers the 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and a penalty shoot-out do not count, unless the specific competition or platform rules state otherwise. This is important in knockout matches: a team may advance on penalties, while the match itself still finished level in normal time.
