What do over 2.5 goals and under 2.5 goals mean?

What is over 2.5 goals?
Over 2.5 goals means the match must finish with at least 3 goals scored by the two teams combined. The total includes goals scored by both the home and away sides. Therefore, scores such as 2–1, 3–0 and 2–2 reach this line.
Examples of scores over 2.5
Results such as 3–0, 0–3, 2–1, 1–2, 3–1 and 4–2 have over 2.5 goals because the total is 3 or more. A 2–0 score produces only 2 goals and does not fall into this category.
What is under 2.5 goals?
Under 2.5 goals means the match can have a maximum of 2 goals in total. Scores of 0–0, 1–0, 0–1 and 1–1 meet this line. Results with 3 or more goals, such as 2–1, are over 2.5.
Why does the line use 2.5?
The number 2.5 separates results with up to 2 goals from those with at least 3 goals. As a match cannot finish with half a goal, there is no total exactly equal to 2.5. Therefore, this line cannot result in a tie in the total.
Which goals count towards the total?
In general, the line includes only goals scored in normal time and stoppage time, unless the competition or market specifies otherwise. The goals scored by both teams are added together. Under most rules, extra-time and penalty shoot-out goals do not count, but it is important to check the specific terms before interpreting the result.
